In the 1960s, PROCENTO Masterdam (often operating under the name PROCENTO N.V.) was a key Dutch importer and distributor, also acting as the primary gateway for Japanese electronics into the Netherlands.
PROCENTO was a pioneer in bringing Japanese technology to the Dutch market. Their most important partnership was with CASIO and SUMLOCK ANITA.
In the 1960s, calculators were not household items. They were luxury business tools. A single electronic calculator could cost as much as a small car. PROCENTO marketed these primarily to: Large banks and insurance firms in Amsterdam, Logistics companies in the Port of Amsterdam, Government administrative departments.
The name ‘Masterdam’ was often used as a branding or trade name for their office equipment branch. By the late 1960s and early 1770s, as technology shifted from transistors to Integrated Circuits (ICs), PROCENTO helped transition the Dutch office landscape toward the era of miniaturization and, eventually, portable calculators.
